Ryder System Packaging Engineer I in NOVI, Michigan
The Packaging Engineer I will perform a variety of tasks.
This position allows for the opportunity to drive operational improvements and change through strong communication skills and analytical problem-solving. Individuals who are highly self-motivated and have strong attention to detail will excel in this opportunity.
Bachelor's degree in packaging engineering or equivalent degree
Minimum of three (3) months of packaging engineering experience
Experience with working in a team environment
Able to read and understand the regulations of the customer, AIAG and OSHA standards
Mathematics, oral and written communication skills, presentation skills, and the ability to "sell the vision"
Knowledge of: CAD, MS Access, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Visio and Tablu
Identify key suppliers to utilize returnable containers to maximize safety, storage, protection and shipping
Right size required product and research alternative container methods;Maximize material handling efficiency
Develop cost reductions as a result of packaging that is flexible to accommodate multiple products
Create cost justification presentations to review with customer
Develop packaging guidelines in conjunction with industry standards, best practices and customer requirements
Maintain returnable container master by supplier
Train and educate customers (internal and external) on program
Assist with implementing reusable containers
Analyze engineering drawings and product specifications to determine part characteristics to ensure proper development of protective packaging taking safety and special handling into consideration
Develop sketches specifications, samples and written analyses of proposed packaging in order to present design for approval
Consult with purchasing and manufacturing departments to determine costs and feasibility of proposed packaging
Ensure packaging can be utilized throughout all processes of the operation
Provide guidance to purchasing on the supplier cost of the container verse corrugated, wood, etc.
