Ryder System Logistics Manager - Transportation Management in NOVI, Michigan

Position Description

The Logistics Manager position is responsible for the implementation and execution of process management and manages total customer satisfaction in a logistics operation.

The Logistics Manager is a critical leadership role focused on global transportation management for customer production locations in North America. Primary responsibilities include the following. Of note, it isnot a requirement to have experience in international logistics, but is a requirement to haveexperience in logistics engineering or operations, problem solving and critical thinking skills.

  • Complete oversight of international ocean and air freight program, managing relationships with freight forwarders, supplier compliance, and routing instructions for global suppliers shipping to customer production locations. Primary customer facing accountability for all things international freight. Act as primary point of contact for customer escalation and resolution of service issues with freight forwarders.

  • International logistics engineering and cost savings initiatives related to mode changes, consolidations, port changes, and rail options.

  • Regular engagement with International Procurement manager regarding freight forwarder service and bids.

  • Point person for customer account for LogNet application & process.

  • Management of 1 direct report.

  • Domestic transportation responsibilities for assigned plant locations & value streams.

  • Regular reporting and customer updates.



  • Bachelor's degree in Business Logistics or Transportation or 8 (eight) years of combined college and/or relevant equivalent work experience is required

  • Minimum of 2 (two) years of supervisory experience required

  • Experience with warehouse and or software applications, routing and dispatch software systems required

  • Experience with ground transportation operations including DOT, OSHA and all related safety regulations


  • Excellent written, verbal and organizational skills preferred

  • 3-5 years of experience in a transportation, warehouse or distribution environment preferred

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office preferred


  • Ensuring flawless execution and adherence to pre-established customer critical success factors

  • Management of all areas of transportation to include safety, transportation, DOT regulation, compliance, P and L responsibility, distribution and customer service

  • Management of assigned direct reports to include employee relation issues, performance management, new employee training and development
