The job:

Our Vice President Corporate Communications will provide executive leadership for building, operating and leading an integrated strategic communications program for Ryder including all internal and external stakeholders both proactively and reactively at our Global Headquarters located in beautiful Miami, Florida.

In this role, you will manage and provide strategic direction for all media-related activities including all media relationships to ensure the organizations plans, programs and services are fairly and accurately communicated. You will be our official spokesperson as necessary, lead, develop and manage strategic internal communications to promote employee understanding, engagement and support for the company’s, mission, vision and strategic objectives. You will manage thought leadership positioning and activation while working closely with the Investor Relations organization and Finance to shape and execute the messages for Ryder’s financial performance.

As a highly analytical and metrically driven person, you will develop tools and processes to track external reputation through media and social monitoring and responds as necessary. You will own our crisis communications plans managing all aspects of effective communications as it relates to a given crisis. Importantly, you will closely partner with our executive team and CEO to craft presentations and messages as required for strategic events and initiatives.

You will oversee the Ryder Charitable Foundation for corporate giving and optimize it based on Ryder’s strategic giving pillars. In addition, you will represent Ryder at key community events.

In this critical leadership role, you will also interface with government affairs, legal and marketing for integrated approaches to communications initiatives. You will manage our external PR agency and manage, develop, mentor, and lead your department of seven professionals. Lastly you will report directly to our Chief Marketing Officer EVP/CMO.



The ideal candidate will have the instincts of a seasoned journalist for developing compelling stories, and the corporate communications experience and judgement to shape corporate reputation in support of our organization’s goals, objectives and strategic priorities.

  • 15+ years' experience in Corporate Communications or similar role required, with extensive experience working in-house with publicly-traded company(ies), logistics and transportation experience desired and IR experience a plus

  • Proven track record of managing external agencies. Track record of success as a trusted company spokesperson to media, investor and advocacy communities. Well-known and regarded by these communities

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively present ideas and get buy-in. Ability to convey complex concepts and strategies, on technical and non-technical topics, both orally and in writing

  • Outstanding writing background and capabilities are a must

  • Excellent listener, seeks broad input and feedback to quickly gain consensus across the organization

  • Understanding of social media channels and experience using them to drive corporate reputation

  • Management of a charitable foundation

  • Strategic-thinker who executes well and with attention to detail

  • Master’s degree preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Journalism or Communications required

Work is typically performed in an office environment. Independent travel to other sites and surrounding communities required.


  • Leads development and execution of a broad and effective communications strategy and plan for the company

  • Manages the external PR agency and other corporate communication vendors

  • Partners with the businesses and executive leadership to develop key messages and align on strategies

  • Leads strategy and messaging for crisis communications for internal & external audiences

  • Provides support to Human Resources for Internal Communications, including on-boarding and orientation materials, all hands meetings and company events

  • Creates a collaborative environment with senior leadership that enhances cross-company unity and productivity. Fosters an environment in which people do their best. Establishes clear expectations, sets priorities, focuses resources, manages, mentors, and as appropriate, delegates effectively

  • Effectively uses data to inform strategy and is comfortable applying data insights to develop and evolve communications strategy. Leverage market research, business plans and operational and other market data to develop communications strategies and plans designed to support business goals

  • Establishes measurement and metrics for function and sets a cadence to share program performance data with senior leadership and key stakeholders

  • Must take innovative approaches to age old communications challenges
