Position Description

The Senior Writer, Communications (internal) will create, edit, curate, aggregate and manage content for internal audiences. This team member will support the Change Management Director to deliver and execute on large scale project communication plans and other Change Management needs for special programs and projects. They will align with Ryder Corporate Communication to ensure consistency of project messages with the Ryder branding strategy. The Sr. Writer will be responsible for the timely execution of employee communications for delivery of in North America, as well as, internationally when needed, through effective messaging that is designed to motivate desired changes with internal audience behaviors and positively influence the real and perceived value of Ryder as an employer, a brand, a business solutions provider, an investment opportunity, a business partner, an industry leader, and a community member.


  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or English

  • Eight (8) years or more of communications/writing experience, preferably in a corporate environment

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

  • Detail-oriented and highly organized

  • Ability to:

  • Practice a collaborative and team-oriented work-style and effectively multi-task in a deadline-driven environment

  • Leverage resources across multiple functions

  • Develop strong business partnerships with management and peers company-wide

  • Both, personally produce and develop written and other forms of communications, as well as, lead and direct other internal employees and outside resources to meet deadlines with accurate, high quality deliverables (advanced level)

  • Knowledge of:

  • Microsoft Office Suite

  • Yammer or similar social media tool (advanced level)

  • Transportation and logistics industry (intermediate level) preferred


  • Identify opportunities to reinforce the company’s core values, brand and strategic priorities in internal messaging:

  • Responsibilities include: develop employee communications for various constituencies and business units; create and curate content for Ryder’s employee magazine; write and edit executive speeches; newsletters, executive memos; video script writing, and ad hoc projects

  • Write/edit communications for internal change management initiatives, including: acquisitions/divestitures; business process outsourcing; reorganizations; changes in workforce; and policy and process modifications

  • Support executive business strategy communications, including Chairman's quarterly business update and quarterly officers' calls

  • Support crisis communications efforts, including natural disasters, pandemics, loss of key customers, accidents or employee incidences

  • Perform other duties as assigned
