Job Description:

New Product identification, management , and championing are critical to the success of most innovative organizations. The difference between a win and a loss often comes down to which products are bet on, speed to market, and the associated pricing strategies.

Our newly created role internally internally titled " Senior Director of Product Strategy" centralizes these important contributions into one leader. If you work best in ambiguity, are an agile thinker, someone not afraid to fail, but when you do, you do so quickly and learn from it, that’s a great start. If you’re also an accomplished communicator able to interact and manage at ALL levels of a Fortune 500, as well as a passionate visionary with an uncanny ability to pick winning products, this role could be a tailored fit for you.

You’ll likely already have experience working in a large, complex, multinational organization, successfully bringing products from ideation to fruition, and developing and presenting business cases for new product investment. You will be a fast learner, although potentially not yet familiar with our direct industry. You will be a great relationship builder, yet not afraid to roll up your sleeves and dig in no matter what the task.

If successful in your pursuit of this position, as our Senior Director of Product Strategy you will be responsible for company-wide identification and development of new customer facing products. You will own identification, business case development and pricing strategy for new products across Ryder’s three divisions, Fleet Management Solutions (FMS), Dedicated Transportation Solutions (DTS), and Supply Chain Solutions (SCS). Given the breadth and variety of these businesses, the ability to think quickly, identify commonalities and potential synergies, and the willingness to ask and learn from plenty of questions to a broad range of people is crucial.

At times you will have to make the tough decision to terminate projects that are not worthwhile, and be successful in obtaining Executive Leadership concurrence in this regard, and your background clearly shows examples of this.

Our Senior Director of Product Strategy will ultimately work collaboratively with other corporate leaders in the newly formed Product Strategy and Development organization to create new products, evaluate competitive offerings, assess customer demand, develop pricing structure and ensure successful implementation to the field sales organization company-wide.

Requirements

  • Master's degree

  • Bachelor's degree Business or related field

  • Eight (8) years or more experience in a related field

  • Three (3) years or more experience Ryder experience preferred

  • Ability to:

  • Create and maintain professional relationships within all levels of the organization (peers, work groups, customers, supervisors). Ability to effectively interact with executive, field and customer management

  • Lead and influence Leadership Team, Strategy/Marketing/IT/Finance, field sales and operations management

  • Manage others

  • Utilize strong financial analytical skills for new product pricing development

  • Work independently and as a member of a team

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Responsibilities

New Product Ideation and Development:

  • Develops new strategic methodology for Ryder to identify and develop new products. Identify potential products, define opportunity and value proposition, assess competitor offerings and alternative product solutions, identify target customer base and needs, assess fit with Ryder’s strategy, product portfolio and technology capabilities

  • Identifies potential new products through various sources including strategic plan, start-up incubators, Customer Advisory Boards and other direct customer feedback, customer market research, business unit operations and sales teams, and competitor product analysis

  • Interact directly with customer/prospect senior leadership to identify and assess new product ideas

  • Develop new approach and criteria for product go/no go evaluation process, and manages new products through this process. Ensure speed to market of new products to maximize opportunity

  • Works with Leadership Team, new Product Strategy & Development organization team members, Product Champions, Marketing, sales and operations teams, and IT to develop and help launch successful new products through the entire organization. New products may include services addressing Ryder’s traditional markets as well as newly identified markets in transportation and logistics

  • Present new product ideas to Ryder’s Leadership Team for green-light to pursue

  • Ensure alignment across organization for new product development and launch. Work closely with the assigned Leadership Team member “Product Champion” in development of each new product

Pricing Strategy & Development:

  • Will develop pricing strategy to maximize returns and adoption of new products considering Ryder costing, customer willingness to pay, and positioning relative to other products available in the market (from both Ryder and other providers)

  • Will lead collection of market pricing data to determine optimal price positioning of Ryder’s new products and monitor/revise over time as products are rolled out and mature

  • Will develop and communicate pricing strategy and structure to Leadership Team members and the sales organization company-wide. Will obtain market feedback from various sources including sales organization regarding customer acceptance of pricing structure and modify over time as appropriate

  • Works with Sales leadership and HR Compensation to develop commission structure for new products

Employee Development & Supervision:

  • Plan staffing requirements, hiring (internal & external), work plan development

  • Employee training and development

  • Employee review and performance appraisals

  • Provide overview and direction on projects

  • Facilitate the flow of work and communication
