Ryder System IT Data Services Intern - API in MIAMI, Florida

Position Description

As part of the Ryder IT team, the Data Services Intern will perform a variety of job functions for traditional on premise as well as cloud based environments, including but not limited to, operational and analytical database design, working with structured, semi-structured and/or unstructured data, data profiling/analysis, database, data ingestion, ETL reporting development, testing, documentation, and production environments support including troubleshooting and break fixes. The position could be extended past the summer internship period and may lead to a temporary position.

The Intern .NET API Developer will be responsible for the programming of REST APIs following best standards and practices set by Enterprise Integration Services. Developer will work closely with the Technical Lead and other developers to learn more about the tools and design patterns being implemented, and the specific programming language being utilized. With guidance from the team, the developer will get an opportunity to build their own APIs, as well as enhance existing APIs.


  • Bachelor's degree or Senior/Graduate students pursuing a bachelor's

  • Master’s degree in Management Information Systems (MIS) , Computer Science, Data Science or Computer Engineering preferred

  • 0 to one (1) year exposure to SQL, Data base programming, data base appliances and ETL tools like Informatica or Data Stage tool is a plus preferred

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Exposure to SQL, database management systems, NO-SQL databases, ETL tools like Informatica preferred

  • Exposure to cloud technologies and platforms

  • Exposure to machine learning and predictive modeling

  • Must be self-motivated, results-oriented and accountable

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team

  • Passionate for learning

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Write SQL queries

  • Learn new technologies and tools, bring new ideas to the team and be an effective team player preferred

  • Effectively communicate with management and co-workers and customers; strong customer focus preferred

  • Work well under pressure, successfully meet schedules, work independently to produce high quality work with minimal supervision preferred

  • Operate as part of a cross-functional project team that will organize, plan and execute varying scale projects from vision to implementation preferred

  • Knowledge to scripting languages like UNIX shell scripting, Python, R (beginner level) preferred

  • Data Warehouse Dimensional model structures, including facts and dimensions (beginner level) preferred

  • Information technologies (beginner level) preferred

  • Cloud platform like Microsoft Azure (beginner level) preferred

  • Robotic Process Automation (RPA) knowledge (beginner level) preferred

  • Windows and UNIX operating systems (beginner level) preferred

  • Certificate in Cloud based data ingestion, storage and analytics tools like Azure Data Factory, BLOB Storage, PowerBI etc. completed or in progress preferred

  • Certificate in database management systems or business intelligence completed or in progress preferred


  • Work with on premise and cloud based solutions and platforms

  • Analyze and document data requirements including facilitation of sessions with business

  • Data analysis and profiling

  • ETL source to target documentation including business matrix and functional requirements

  • Develop and test data ingestion and ETL processes

  • Troubleshoot data ingestion, ETL and data issues

  • SQL troubleshooting

  • Develop and test scripts to support ETL jobs execution

  • Partner with key members of various departments to determine the definitions of essential data elements

  • Work with data architects to review and implement logical and physical data base models

  • Support the mapping of source system data to target models into data warehouse and data lake

  • Define and capture metadata and rules associated with the calculation of metrics

  • Test automation

  • Performs other duties as assigned
