Ryder System Director of Automation Enablement Center in MIAMI, Florida

Position Description

The Director of Automation Enablement Center will coordinate the company’s journey to streamline business processes and reduce cost. This position is responsible for developing the vision and direction for Automation across the business, including the evaluation of opportunities for process improvement through automation and outsourcing, coordination of these activities across each business unit and central support services, program oversight, target setting and key performance management. The person must be capable of working in a matrixed environment, gathering cross functional input and support, and coordinating diverse projects across the functional areas. Included within the responsibilities will be identifying and evaluation key technologies and partners to support the function’s efforts

The role will support operations and business leaders deploying robotic process automation in agile development scrums, analyzing key target areas for improvement and serving as the link between IT and Business owners on these automation tools and technologies

The position will be expected to deliver significant operational improvement and financial benefits across functions and businesses, coaching process owners through projects, and acting as a change agent to instill a continuous improvement mindset across the businesses


  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering or related field

  • Master's degree in Industrial Engineering or related field preferred

  • Ten (10) years or more of experience in Process Improvement initiatives and Project Management. Substantial experience in planning and executing DMAIC six Sigma projects and Lean - Kaizen events, including relevant exposure to TQM and Value Stream Mapping

  • Three (3) years or more of experience working with robotics and other emerging technologies preferred

  • Five (5) years or more of supervisory experience preferred

  • Ten (10) years or more of demonstrated experience working cross functionally to deliver project results

  • Exceptional analytical, research, mathematical modeling and forecasting skills

  • Exceptional organization, prioritization and planning skills

  • Ability to:

  • Primary contact within the Automation Enablement Center (AEC) to partner with internal business process owners to

  • Help evaluate and re-engineer business processes

  • Identify the appropriate tools and technologies to drive efficiencies and cost savings

  • Understand and work with teams to optimize business processes primarily through automation, but also evaluating outsourcing and other efficiency methods

  • Documenting automation value streams

  • Coordinating automation activities through the business

  • Transfer knowledge and documentation to the RPA Coach/developers for implementation

  • Set Targets and KPIs for automation and other efficiency driving projects. Track benefits and work with leaders to hold teams accountable to delivering to targets and KPIs. With the business leaders, identify areas to target for improvement. Once selected, work with dedicated team to:

  • Scope and plan the projects (deliverables, timelines, resourcing, etc.)

  • Identify waste and pain-points in the process using Lean tools (including basic Process Mapping, VSM, SIPOC’s, Time and Motion studies, Benchmarking, etc.) and present findings to Senior Leadership

  • Organize and lead Kaizen workshops, guide the project teams on conducting root cause analysis and identify action plans to eliminate to solve various business and process issues

  • Develop “To–Be” processes, document Identified policy and procedure gaps and an implementation plan to implement the future state

  • Partner with business and function’s senior management to identify and structure individual projects

  • Review and report on performance against operational objectives and project success factors

  • Ensure the integrity of performance systems and reports

  • Performs other duties as assigned
