Reporting to the Vice President of IT Technical Services and Operations, the Director of Enterprise Network Services is responsible for the success of the Network and Voice services platforms at Ryder.The role actively manages the delivery of reliable, efficient, cost-effective networks in Ryder’s hosting environments, at fleet maintenance and warehouse distribution locations, and in office environments across Ryder’s global footprint.The Director leads a staff of Architecture, Engineering and Service Delivery personnel that support internal business customers across Ryder’s global footprint. In addition, this role leverages managed services partners to manage repetitive build and run operations across the enterprise.

The Director of Enterprise Network Services serves as the Design Authority for Ryder’s Enterprise Network Infrastructure, leading a team to design, build, run, operate and improve capabilities including: Optimized, Resilient, High Bandwidth Software Defined Wide Area Networking (SDWAN), efficient IP Address Management capabilities, Enterprise Load Balancing & WAN Optimization capabilities, UCaaS based telephony services, Enterprise Call Center Operations platforms, Enterprise Wireless services while transforming Ryder’s network to provide business agility. This leader will own and drive the Enterprise Network Services strategy and roadmap.

This leader must have strong experience in the operational management of enterprise networks, connecting end users to on-premise data center compute environments and connecting Ryder to Cloud based applications and SaaS services. This includes that ability to design, manage and operate all the tools and processes needed to deliver secure, world class, operational support for the Ryder enterprise Voice and Data networks. This role will also be responsible for Telecom Expense Management across the enterprise.

This leader will be expected to act as an organization resource to both the IT organization and the business units as Ryder collectively builds on a Digital Transformation journey. It is expected that this leader will have strong expertise across the entire IT infrastructure landscape – Security, Applications, Databases, Compute, Virtualization, Networking and can partner with other senior leaders within IT and the business to construct a secure, high quality, scalable, highly available, manageable underlying network services platform.

Essential Functions

  • STRATEGY AND MANAGEMENTArchitecture and implementation of Ryder Enterprise Voice and Data Network services platform(s).Lead the Network Services teams: Network Design and Operations Services, Enterprise Voice and Telecom Expense Management(TEM) Services and Field Engineering Services.Effectively interact with senior management to understand their strategic initiatives and communicate the relevance and importance of a strong I&O foundation required to ensure success.Partner with business and IT teams to create original concepts, is process oriented with experience in establishing standards, processes, methodologies for IT Infrastructure and Operations (I&O) across the enterprise.Define, implement, and promote architectural guidelines/standards, best practices, governing mechanisms, key processes, controls, and supporting tools. Demonstrate thought leadership across discipline and domains of I&O and solution delivery platforms. Effectively Facilitate consensus and/or obtain buy-in from domain experts. Accelerate adoption of and promote adherence to guidelines/standards by engaging, teaching, training, and mentoring peers and associates.Excellent presentations skills with the ability to communicate and persuade management at all levels.Mentor IT Network services teams on - Infrastructure best practices – tools, process, technology, security and service delivery.Own and drive the Network Services technology strategy and roadmap. Be the champion for driving change and innovation.Facilitate performance reviews, identifying training and development requirements and plans. Constantly evaluate the skills and effectiveness of the current team that results in a high performing IT Technical Services team

  • PRODUCTION SUPPORTResponsible for daily production support activities related to the 35000 Ryder employees, 1000+ remote locations and over 7 data centers. Technical scope includes – switches, routers, load balancers, VPN concentrators, LAN and WAN services, Network Optimization devices, Call Center Platforms, UCaaS platforms, and on prem telephony platforms. Drive continuous improvement in partnership with other Infrastructure and Application development teams to address availability and performance challenges. Responsible for effective execution of Incident Management, Problem Management, Request Management, and Change Management as it relates to the Enterprise Network Services.Provide technical and operational oversight to any managed services providers used by Ryder IT to deliver services to our business users.

  • SOLUTIONS DELIVERYAbility to translate business/project needs and objectives into requirements and project estimates for both implementation and ongoing production support for key IT and Business initiatives.Strong expertise in developing optimal staffing solutions that ensure efficient, yet comprehensive support of Ryder solutions.Establish Strong partnerships with Enterprise Security, Enterprise Architecture and the PMO to ensure that the I&O organizations requirements are understood, and the team drives value across the organization.Conduct program/project reviews to identify and address business concerns, support issues and/or project /technical roadblocks. Drive issues to resolution.Daily coordination of Enterprise Network Services staff and resourcesDaily coordination of Enterprise Network Services project deliverables

  • FINANCIAL MANAGEMENTPerform management and administrative functions including budgeting, reporting (personnel utilization, project status, etc., salary administration, employee discipline, etc.).Verify accurate solution estimates are provided, proposals are consistent with I&O guidelines/standards, and potential risks have been identified. Work with Portfolio/Program Managers, Application Teams, Operations, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), partners and suppliers on solution designs and proposals that maximize leverage and reflect true costs/benefits. Responsible for the Network Services P&L for location codes.

  • VENDOR MANAGEMENTManage strategic relationships with key telecom vendors for wireline and wireless services. Effectively manage key Vendors leveraging ongoing QBRs to drive continuous value creation.Lead the development and execution of strategic Requests for Proposals (RFP).Effectively review Master Services Agreements and resulting Statements of Work (SOW) to ensure that Ryder is protected and receives value.Partner with Ryder Procurement to manage the execution and renewal of strategic vendor contracts and services.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Responsible for overall management of the Enterprise Network Services Delivery team and their project assignments

  • Works closely with Ryder executives understanding their business strategy and serves as their adviser in how core infrastructure can be a competitive advantage within the market place.

  • Creation of business oriented presentations to communicate return on investment on key I&O projects.

  • Partners with Enterprise Security to own and drive network related security hardening and vulnerability remediation

  • Mentors Technical team and Project managers on the design, delivery and support of enterprise Voice and Data Network platforms.

  • Deliver scheduled milestones on-time to ensure project/program objectives are met

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor's degree-Information Science/Computer Science/Engineering-Required

  • Master's degree-MBA or Information Science-Preferred

  • Minimum of 10 years IT experience with a variety of enterprise voice and data network technologies supporting the full product life cycle-Required

  • Minimum (5) years Experience as a Director in a large and complex environment. Ideally in a multi-billion dollar organization managing teams of 30 or more employees.-Required

  • Minimum (5) years Sound experience and proven delivery record of architecting and implementing enterprise-wide solutions using leading On Prem and Cloud based network technologies.-Required

  • Minimum (5) years Practical experience in building business and technical requirements-Required

  • Minimum (5) years Strong experience in the architecture and implementation of highly available, scalable WAN solutions.-Required

  • Minimum of (3) yeas Experience in supporting Application Development or Enterprise ERP platforms.-Preferred

  • Minimum (3) years Experience in managing Enterprise Network Security Program or Practice.-preferred


  • Strong technical expertise with all On Prem Network Technologies – Switch, Routers, Load Balancers, VPN Concentrators, SDWAN Devices, Wireles Networks, UCaaS, SAN, Network, Backup, DR, Operational tools-Advanced-Required

  • Strong Expertise in Enterprise Network Operations – HW/SW Life Cycle Management, Operational Monitoring/Alerting, Capacity Management, Redundancy/High Availability solutions, Enterprise DR Solutions, Operational Health Checks, IT Automation/Self Healing.-Advanced-Required

  • Hands-on, demonstrable, technical background is essential. Expertise in Network Switching, Routing, BGP, OSPF, MPLS protocols, VPN, and QoS is a must.-Advanced-Required

  • Strong understanding and experience with the delivery of Enterprise Network Managed Services. Ability to create a Service Catalog with associated rate sheet.-Advanced-Required

  • Knowledge of Business Systems Management, Project Management, Business Analysis, Systems and Infrastructure, Budget and Human Resource Management-Advanced-Required

  • Very strong understanding of Enterprise security programs and the technologies, tools needed to harden the core network infrastructure both on prem and in the cloud.-Advanced-Required

  • Call Center Platforms, UCaaS Platforms and on prem Telephony solutions.-Advanced-Required
