Ryder System Supply Chain Engineering Manager in FONTANA, California

Position Description

The Supply Chain Engineering Manager will be responsible for analysis and utilization of continuous improvement methodology to lead the design of complex Supply Chain Solutions for current and future operations. Responsible for the Management of other engineers. Provides regular and proactive communications to customers and Ryder Senior Management.

  • Lead engineering team’s efforts to support Ryder Dedicated Transporation Solutions' (DTS) West Region portfolio.

  • Work with Operations leadership on project prioritization and deliverables, customer analytics, growth initiatives, and ensure continuous improvement objectives are met.

  • Introduce and work with Operation leadership to introduce new innovative technologies to the Accounts.

  • Serve as Ryder DTS’ Subject Matter Expert on routing, scheduling applications and best practices.

  • Help train new engineers on modeling tools and manage application vendor relationships.

  • Manage, coach, and mentor resources within Ryder’s Dedicated Routing Center.

  • Develop program to grow engineering talent for continuous improvement projects with increasing complexity and customer facing responsibilities.

  • Work with new customers and operations teams during implementation and collaborative due diligence to ensure Ryder’s solution is operationally feasible and risks are mitigated (including order processing, systems and processes).

  • Work with Customer and Operational leads in deploying metrics.


  • Bachelors degree required in Engineering/Business/Supply Chain or a minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience

  • Minimum of eight years of related experience


  • MBA and/or Industrial Engineering Masters Degree preferred. Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification preferred, attainment is required within 12 months

  • American Production Inventory Control Society (APICS) Certification is preferred

  • Demonstrated proficiency in: MS Office MS Project and/or Transportation/Warehouse Management Systems (TMS and WMS) MS Visio Statistical and/or Transportation

  • Analysis Tools (Minitab, SAS, Matlab, i2, Tmod, ILPS) Network analysis tools and/or Simulation and Inventory/Network Design tools Mapping analysis tools, preferred


  • Independently identifies process gaps then recommends and implements process improvement

  • Applies company methodologies and tools to design distribution and/or transportation operations

  • Establishes and implements performance measures

  • Actively supports the sales process and creates high quality solutions and designs

  • Provides proposal presentation support and development

  • Makes Inventory and/or Supply Chain strategy recommendations

  • Effectively interacts with customers, Sales, and Operations to create value propositions

  • Confers with Engineering and Operations Managers to implement efficient and competitive solutions

  • Manages multiple and complex Supply Chain projects

  • Provides resource planning based on priorities and demand signals

  • May assist in providing logistics training as part of Ryder Academy Supervises a team of engineers (hire, promote, coach, development and performance management)
