Ryder System National Sales Associate Trainee (Supply Chain) in DETROIT, Michigan

Position Description

The Sales Associate Trainee is focused on developing sales & solution skills with the ultimate goal of moving into a sales role. In this 18-24 month program, the Sales Associate Trainee will be accountable for completing training on Ryder's value proposition and services offered while supporting individual sales professionals.

Ryder services include:

  • Supply Chain Services (including Warehousing, Transportation Management, Last Mile Transportation, Brokerage and Consulting)

  • Dedicated Transportation

  • Full Service Lease (including On-Demand Maintenance and Lease Financing)

The Sales Associate Trainee will learn how to prospect, discover customer needs, prepare and deliver solution proposals that meet the identified needs of customers and new name prospects, and close a sale. In addition, the Sales Associate Trainee will build relationships with existing customers and prospects to gauge satisfaction, increase retention, and identify opportunities to grow the business.

The Sales Associate Trainee will have the opportunity to work cross-functionally with operations, legal, finance and asset management to maximize their learning and achieve desired sales results. Training program will be based out of Ryder System headquarters in Miami, Florida.

Upon successful completion of this program meeting both learning and performance requirements, the Sales Associate Trainee will be able to move into a business development manager role (either in account management or new business development).

Must be located in or willing to relocate to Miami, FL for this role (some relocation assistance may be available)

  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, Marketing, Transportation or equivalent field

  • Master's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, Marketing, Transportation or equivalent field preferred

  • Two (2) years or more demonstrated consecutive sales excellence, with proficiency in selling and presentation skills or equivalent preferred

  • Two (2) years or more customer service with issues resolution experience required preferred

  • Understands and can speak to basic principles of finance (time value of money, reading balance sheets, costs of capital, etc.)

  • Ability to:

  • Clearly communicate ideas to individuals and groups (at different levels in the organization) in written and verbal formats

  • Create and maintain professional relationships within all levels of the organization (peers, work groups, customers, supervisors)

  • Relocate within assigned region upon completion of program

  • Work independently and as member of a team

  • Capable of multi-tasking, highly organized, with excellent time management skills: Flexibility to operate and self-driven to excel in a fast-paced environment

  • Detail oriented with excellent follow-up practices

  • Supply Chain (intermediate level)

  • Demonstrated sales aptitude and product knowledge (intermediate level)

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs (intermediate level)


  • Actively learning, developing and improving sales skills, building industry knowledge and achieve growth goals via specified training and development plan

  • Prospect new accounts with key decision makers within assigned territory; Deal qualification; Identifying buying influences; Closing & Negotiation skills

  • Support Director of Business Development with developing and executing a strategy to target prospects and generate qualified leads

  • On the job training and sales related activities with assigned DBD & Sales Trainer (lead generation, salesforce.com, territory planning and increasing SOW)

  • Perform other duties as assigned
