Ryder System Operations Manager - Startups in DALLAS, Texas

Position Description

An Operations Manager on SET (Startup Effectiveness Team) will manage one or more customer accounts in short cycles giving the sites operations team the ability to focus on the employees, customer and site stability.

  • This is a unique opportunity within the Ryder organization.

  • This position will play a leadership role in the startup of new customer distribution centers across the US, this can include Canada and Mexico.

  • Will be exposed to diverse product lines and labor management systems.

  • This opportunity provides the candidate with a fast track to career advancement within the Ryder organization.

  • The position will require a minimum of 80% travel.

  • Can be tasked with site support for existing operations.

  • Will interact with all levels of management for both Ryder and our Customers.

The SET team is a diverse group of leaders tasked with all aspects of the startup process. A SET OM will manage safety, P&L responsibility and direct the assessment, development, launch, and continuous improvement activities during the implementation. This position will also require day-to-day customer interaction and supporting the on-site operations manager. This position will report directly to a senior Group Logistics Manager.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma/GED

  • Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain, or related field preferred

  • Four (4) years or more experience in Supply Chain, Logistics, Warehouse or industry related field

  • Three (3) years or more of supervisory experience

  • Three (3) years or more of application experience in Lean principles, systems and tools. Experience using formal Root Cause Countermeasure Systems preferred

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with demonstrated leadership capabilities

  • Ability to create and maintain professional relationships within all levels of the organization (Peers, Work groups, Customers, Supervisors)

  • Ability to work self-directed with minimal supervision

  • Flexibility to operate and self-driven to excel in a fast-paced environment

  • Capable of multi-tasking, highly organized, with excellent time management skills

  • Detail oriented with excellent follow-up practices

  • Excellent problem solving skills

  • Strong organization, analytical, and computer skills

  • Ability to manage individual performance and employee relations

  • Ability to effectively manage Profit & Loss statements may be necessary depending on the complexity and scope of the operation ( Preferred )

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of warehouse operations (Intermediate level)

  • Knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) (Intermediate level, Preferred )

  • Knowledge of Material Handling Equipment (MHE) may be required based on position (intermediate level, preferred )

  • Knowledge of OSHA (Intermediate level)

  • DOT/Hazmat knowledge may be required based on the account(s) (Intermediate level, Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership for employees through in-depth training and continuous review of employee understanding of policies, procedures and processes. Create a productive work environment through effective communication, coaching, motivating and leading by example

  • Maintain open and effective communications within assigned work group(s) and the rest of the operations within the organization. Communicate daily/shift goal of facility and group(s). Devise, communicate and implement plans to obtain operational goals. Work with and motivate employees to ensure goal completion. Organize data, provide results and recommended actions for management review

  • May interface directly with the customer(s) via telephone or e-mail to ensure timely response for documented open issues based on the complexity and size of the operation

  • Maintain a proactive safety program within the work group(s) consistent with company policy in order to provide a safe and secure work environment. Instruct and enforce location safety management plans, training and processes. Monitor the maintenance of equipment for assigned work group(s) by using checklists and observations as required

  • Identify and/or solve operational issues with the account(s) by implementing continuous improvement and LEAN initiatives, to strengthen team unity, goals, productivity and results

  • Hire, train, supervise, develop and manage performance of employees and maintain a positive employee relations environment at assigned operation(s)

  • Performs other duties as assigned
