Ryder System Transportation Safety Manager in BLOOMFIELD, Connecticut
Position Description
The Safety Manager is responsible for managing safety, health and security processes and providing leadership related to employee safety and health issues at a large distribution or transportation facility location. Candidate will be responsible for monitoring compliance with regulatory agencies as well as, internal Ryder safety and health requirements. Position will support operational personnel to ensure that continuous improvement systems are in place to drive positive results relative to employee safety programs, regulatory compliance, workers compensation and injury / collision frequency. This individual will act as a positive change agent in building a strong safety culture with management and drivers.
Requirements
Bachelor degree and evidence of significant exposure to health and safety related coursework
Experience in management of employee safety and health issues or a working knowledge of OSHA / DOT / FMCSA regulatory standards is preferred.
Candidate must possess good interpersonal skills with the ability to work with all levels of management and various employees, drivers and multi-functional teams.
Self- motivated with good time management skills, excellent verbal / writing skills and team building skills are important skill sets.
PIT operational experience, knowledge and trainer certification is preferred.
Strong knowledge of the FMSCA Cargo Securement regulations is preferred
Responsibilities
Oversight of multiple facilities and some travel will be involved.
Support administrative team relative to leadership of SHS issues.
Develops, supervises and coordinate new employee and recurrent monthly / yearly training programs to promote safe work practices
Investigates, tracks, analyzes and reports to management all injuries and collisions with a focus on effective root cause analysis and corrective action follow-up
Participates and interacts with Corporate safety staff with regards to best practices, regulatory updates and internal safety metric tracking
Act as the facility coordinator for the site Safety Management and Incident Management System
Develops and maintain Job Safety Analysis documents for common tasks
Consults with operations in the design, purchase and use of equipment, tools and PPE
Partner with operations to visit customer sites to address and mitigate delivery hazards
Complete the required OSHA Recordkeeping requirements
Act as a change agent to improve location DriveCam Program and coaching effectiveness
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Safety is required
A minimum of 5 (five) years of experience directly managing employee safety and health issues or a Master's degree
Technical experience in OSHA/DOT/FMCSR regulatory standards is required
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Masters degree in Safety or Health field preferred
Candidate must have the ability to work with all levels of management and manage multi-functional teams
CSP or CDS preferred.
Responsibilities

Candidate will support operational personnel to ensure that systems are in place to drive continuous improvement in employee safety programs, regulatory compliance, workers compensation and injury/collision experience
