Position Description:

The Director of Sales will provide sales leadership within the assigned business unit and will be responsible for both new business development and retention and growth of existing customers. The incumbent will be accountable for new business revenue objectives, lost business revenue objectives and retention and growth objectives associated with existing customers. The incumbent will develop and execute a multi-level sales plan for the assigned business unit designed to ensure development of the market, and attainment of revenue growth and business retention objectives. A key responsibility will be to coach, train and develop the assigned sales team to sell Ryder's value proposition to all levels of decision maker's within a prospect's or existing customer's organization. In addition, the incumbent must ensure the assigned sales team has the capability to sell across all types and lines of products and business that may be domiciled in the geography of the assigned business unit.

Requirements:

  • 4 (four) years experience managing others Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing or Transportation or eight years of job related experience is required

  • Minimum of 10 (ten) years of industry sales or sales management experience

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduate degree or equivalent experience preferred

Responsibilities:

Primary functions include:

  • Select, train, develop and manage a multi-level sales force capable of selling new business and retaining and growing existing customers within the assigned business unit

  • Leadership of the business unit's account management and account development team

  • Review and approve contract packages

  • Ensure effective and consistent implementation of marketing strategies and activities designed to maximize development of assigned markets

  • Plan, organize, direct and provide leadership to the assigned sales team to ensure attainment of short and long term business growth and retention objectives

  • Ensure the delivery of Ryder's value proposition to customers and prospects through direct interaction with financial executives or through effective leadership of the assigned sales team

  • Ensure the development and implementation of strategic and tactical marketing initiatives for the assigned business unit

  • Develop and lead the execution of effective initiatives and sales activities designed to retain and grow current customers

  • Interface with Ryder's customers and prospects to ensure the maximum development of opportunities associated with the full breadth of Ryder's products and services

  • Maintain awareness of competitor's capabilities and challenges and manage execution of a competitive strategy

  • Ensure consistent execution of all Company initiatives designed to reduce lost business and enhance customer satisfaction: $8MM in new business $7-10 MM in replacement business

  • Interact with the Director of Operations to maximize customer satisfaction, customer retention and business growth opportunities
