Ryder System Supply Chain - Industrial Engineer in NOVI, Michigan
Responsible for analysis and utilization of continuous improvement tools to design Supply Chain Solutions for current and future operations. Provides coaching/mentorship to other engineers. Provides regular and proactive communications to customers and Ryder Management.
The primary focus of this position is to provide engineering support for business development initiatives. When new business opportunities are identified, this engineer will work with both potential customers and a cross-functional Ryder team to develop an optimal warehousing design. By developing and evaluating solution components such as a facility layout along with equipment and labor strategies and requirements, optimal proposals are constructed.
This unique opening allows the opportunity for an engineer to use both imagination and problem-solving skills to create varied and unique solutions to each scenario. Each project tends to be distinctive in its requirements and strategy, so the ability deal with ambiguity and change is essential. The team environment and evaluation process allows visibility to, and interaction with, all levels and functional roles within the company. When a design is implemented, it will be the responsibility of the engineer to verify that reality matches the proposed plan, allowing the realization of the vision to be seen first-hand.
To be successful, an applicant will require a strong knowledge of all supply chain processes and how they interact, and affect distribution management strategies. Experience with designing distribution facilities and warehousing processes is a requirement. Strong analytical skills will be essential to demonstrate that a solution is optimal. They must have strong ability to communicate and work closely with cross-functional team that includes engineering, sales, IT, pricing and management.
Bachelors degree required in Engineering/Business/Supply Chain or a minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience
Minimum of six years of related experience is required
MBA and/or Industrial Engineering Masters Degree preferred
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification preferred, attainment is required within 12 months
American Production Inventory Control Society (APICS) Certification is preferred
Demonstrated proficiency in: MS Office MS Project and/or Transportation/Warehouse Management Systems (TMS and WMS) and Network analysis tools MS Visio Statistical and/or Transportation Analysis Tools (Minitab, SAS, Matlab, i2, Tmod, ILPS) Mapping analysis tools and/or Simulation, preferred
Collects data and performs statistical analysis Maps and documents processes Independently identifies process gaps; recommends and implements process improvement Applies company methodologies and tools to design distribution and/or transportation operations
Establishes and implements performance measures Conducts Inventory and/or Supply Chain analyses and recommends alternative strategies
Actively supports the sales process and creates high quality solutions and designs
Effectively interacts with customers, Sales, and Operations to create value propositions
Confers with the Engineering and Operations Managers to implement efficient and competitive solutions
Manages multiple projects of small and medium size Leads, coaches, and mentors other engineers
