Ryder System Continuous Improvement Engineer in Indianapolis, Indiana

Position Description

  • Develop a thorough, effective and timely site improvement plan to address the top business needs at Ryder sites through the use of a strategic Transformation Plan.

  • Lead Kaizen events, Value Stream Mapping events, continuous improvement projects and other activities that execute the sites strategic Transformation Plan resulting in bottom line company savings.

  • Train site leadership and other key personnel on Ryder Lean Guiding Principles and industry-standard Lean tools to align with the Supply Chain Solutions deployment strategy. Examples include: root cause analysis tools (5 Why’s, Fishbone Diagrams, A3, etc.), Standard Work development, Visual Management (status at a glance), and 5S.

  • Champion “Lean Day 1” activities for new sites within business unit as assigned. Responsibilities include ordering all Lean supplies, coordinating set-up of Lean boards, educating Operational Leadership on Lean tools, and guiding the site on the cadence of Lean activity (waste walks, Transformation Plan review, etc.).

  • Work with site leadership to conduct Lean assessments of critical site and business needs.

  • Work with site leadership to update and re-prioritize their Transformation Plan to maintain focus on the most critical site objectives.

  • Develop local site Lean Leaders capable of driving Lean in their areas. Coach and mentor others on Lean in an attempt to engrain the Lean culture throughout Ryder.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree required in Engineering/Business/Supply Chain or a minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience

  • Minimum of six years of related experience is required

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • MBA and/or Industrial Engineering Masters Degree preferred

  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification preferred, attainment is required within 12 months

  • American Production Inventory Control Society (APICS) Certification is preferred

  • Demonstrated proficiency in: MS Office MS Project and/or Transportation/Warehouse Management Systems (TMS and WMS) and Network analysis tools MS Visio Statistical and/or Transportation Analysis Tools (Minitab, SAS, Matlab, i2, Tmod, ILPS) Mapping analysis tools and/or Simulation, preferred

Responsibilities

  • Collects data and performs statistical analysis Maps and documents processes Independently identifies process gaps; recommends and implements process improvement Applies company methodologies and tools to design distribution and/or transportation operations

  • Establishes and implements performance measures Conducts Inventory and/or Supply Chain analyses and recommends alternative strategies

  • Actively supports the sales process and creates high quality solutions and designs

  • Effectively interacts with customers, Sales, and Operations to create value propositions

  • Confers with the Engineering and Operations Managers to implement efficient and competitive solutions

  • Manages multiple projects of small and medium size Leads, coaches, and mentors other engineers
