Ryder System Lean Manager in CHICAGO, Illinois

Position Description

The Lean Manager will ensure a consistent, rapid and successful deployment of Lean at all assigned accounts, train employees on lean transformational processes, develop continuous improvement plans addressing critical site needs, and identify opportunities for improvement with value stream maps. The incumbent will engage the organization to adapt or maintain a lean continuous improvement culture. He/She will constantly review processes to eliminate waste in the business process areas and will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of the Quality Management System on accounts of diverse scope, complexity and magnitude including adherence to company and industry standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, logistics or equivalent

  • MBA preferred

  • Five (5) years or more experience in process or operation management

  • Five (5) years or more experience in TQM, Lean and/or Six sigma, Value Stream Mapping, Mixed Model Flow/Pull and other process improvement

  • Three (3) years or more supervisory experience

  • Seek to acquire knowledge in area of specialty

  • Certified Six Sigma Green Belt preferred

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, monitor and maintain the Quality Management System including documentation and records based on internal and external standards/regulations. Implements a standardized corrective action system. Focal for coordinating internal and external ISO audits

  • Perform all functions related to Quality Assurance for a start-up or expansion including Responsible Care Program for Industrial and Oil & Gas verticals and other industry specific programs as needed

  • Train site leadership and other key personnel on Ryder Lean Guiding Principles concepts and Lean Transformational Processes in concert with the Supply Chain Solutions deployment strategy, and develop shop floor experts capable of driving Lean in their areas. Coach and mentor others on Lean so it becomes ingrained in Ryder's culture. Mentor Lean on-site managers through Lean certifications

  • Work with site leadership to update and re-prioritize the plan to maintain focus on the most critical site objectives. Provide support and guidance on more complex, or high visibility Lean projects. Develop a thorough, effective and timely continuous improvement plan to address the top business needs at Ryder sites

  • Enable VSM's, Lead Kaizen events, Lean projects & other activities that fulfill the site Lean transformational upgrade plan

  • Report the effectiveness of the Quality Management System at regular management meetings (weekly, monthly, quarterly). Responsible for leading and facilitating ongoing ISO certification for TM annually

  • Manages direct reports and reaches decisions under conditions of uncertainty

  • Works on complex problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors

  • Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions

  • Regularly interacts with Sr. Management and/or customers

  • Performs other duties as assigned
